Tricia Starks and Mike Pierce's Oasis Puerto Aventuras Get-a-way

trish-mike-cancun-1.jpg (36072 bytes)Dear Carol,

My husband and I had been on several cruises before we asked you to book an all-inclusive for us. We settled on the Oasis Puerto Aventuras on the Mayan Riviera because of the great deal you found for us.

We had no idea how much we would enjoy the place. It was so very different from the cruises and really relaxing.

We have really enjoyed the cruises, but this was a pleasant departure. On a cruise, no matter when you go, there is always a crowd. Even in the off season you get off the boat with hundreds of people and your tours are full. However, we created our own schedule at the resort, and we really lucked out.

trish-mike-cancun-8.jpg (30173 bytes)Our introductory scuba course had only five people on it as opposed to the one we took on the cruise which included 15 people. We snorkeled the next day with Dive Aventuras and for the same price as a normal tour my husband and I enjoyed a private trip with two guides.

While the resort lacked the crowds of a cruise, it had all the amenities plus a few more. All meals were included -- just like a cruise. But unlike the cruises, all beverages were included. Sodas, beers, and even blender drinks were readily served up. It was nice to just walk out of your room with a key, a towel, and no worries about the expenses.

trish-mike-cancun-7.jpg (35248 bytes)While we had been concerned that the resort would be a little too isolated, the Oasis surprised us. It is situated in a complex of hotels and condominiums. So unlike some of the all-inclusives, you can escape to a little town. Puerto Aventuras boasted a lagoon where the interested could swim with sting rays, manatees, or dolphins while the curious could watch from one of several nearby bars, restaurants, or souvenir shops. There were also many companies offering snorkeling, fishing, or sailing trips. There were choices, but it was still a nice small venue without the bustle of Cancun. We thought it was just perfect.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Oasis and found it a great value and a nice alternative to cruising. Because you do a lot of business with them, you were able to make sure we got a great room with a spectacular view. We couldn't have asked for more.
