Dick and Sharon Starks - Iberostar, Cozumel Get-a-way

images/iberostar-fish1.jpg (36072 bytes)Dear Carol,

Well here you go as promised, our letter about our recent trip to Iberostar,
First..... Did we like it? Since we're alread booking another trip there with
you that should answer THAT question.

Second, How does it compare with Grand Lido Braco.

Let me put it this way. A 5-star Mexican resort is kinda like a 3-star Jamaican resort.

images/iberostar-fish1.jpg (30173 bytes)Iberostar is everything we need. Lido Braco was incredible but we really didn't need and didn't use all the "bells and whistles" they had there. We didn't need 24 hour room service or 7 different places to eat or some of the other features that Iberostar lacks.

Why are we going back. Well, for one thing, it's about half the cost. The grounds are just as nice as Lido Braco. The buffet style dining is all we need and to be honest, it was as good as or better than the buffet on the Grand Princess Cruise ship and that's hard to beat. They do have two "specialty" restaurants: the Steak House and the Mexican Restaurant that require reservations and they were very good. But, like I said, the buffet was just incredible.

The 4 interconnected swimming pools are at least 4 times the size of the pool at Lido Braco and the swim-up bar was just great. Iberostar also has an excellent kids program ( It's NOT an adults only resort. ) One of the pools is only 12" deep and has lounge chairs IN the pool so you can just dangle your hands over the side of the chair and splash cooling water over you as you char-broil yourself in the sun.

The beach area is just great and it seemed every evening the whole resort would wander down to the beach to watch the sun go down in a blaze of glory. IT WAS JUST SWELL.

Now.. the diving was just incredible. We got in 12 dives in 6 days. We used Dive House and Dive With Martin as our dive operators. They picked us up every morning from the end of Iberostar's pier. The longest boat ride we had to ANY dive spot was 5 minutes. A lot of the more popular dive spots at Cozumel are right off the beach at Iberostar, located as it is, at the south end of the island.

Getting to Iberostar was SOOOOO much easier than the nightmare of Montego Bay airport. The airport at Cozumel is NOT busy and we had to wait at LEAST ONE WHOLE MINUTE in line at the airline counter when we were leaving. Getting through security when we left was an absolute pain-in-the-rear too. We timed it… 45 seconds… 45 WHOLE seconds… I was just appalled!!! Compared to the 3 and ˝ hour wait at the Montego Bay airport…this was just heaven.

So…. Bottom line. Like I said, we're coming in today to book another trip to Iberostar with you. I think the photos below can give you an idea of WHY we're going back.

When we dove with Dive With Martin, our surface intervals were on the beach or a local resort.
