Dear
Mimi,
We arrived in Punta Cana on Thursday, February
13th, after having spent the night in St. Louis. The airport in Punta Cana
really does have a thatched roof!
When we got to Superclubs Breezes Punta Cana, I was
very impressed. The lobby was magnificent, almost 3 stories tall, with
lattice work, stained-glass windows and huge Moroccan style columns and
archways. The chandelier was the most unusual I have ever seen.
We
didn't notice until about 8:30 p.m. that our room overlooked the
amphitheater where "entertainment" was provided NIGHTLY!!! We
didn't have a quiet moment to ourselves in the evening, but the flip side
is, we never had to go downstairs to enjoy the entertainment...all we did
was go to our balcony and sit down! The "live" entertainment
carried on until 11 or 11:30. I would advise anyone staying at this resort
& expecting to get any actual rest to request a room number in the 4000
& up category. That will put them on the east end of the resort which is
quieter.
The
ocean was not the least bit friendly during our vacation. I overheard
someone say he had been there for 2 weeks and the week that coincided with
our stay had much rougher wave action than the previous week. All my water
time was spent in the swimming pool, which was terrific. It also had a
swim-up bar.
Nothing in any of the resort literature mentioned
the availability of horseback riding. Les had a great time on his
mid-morning 1 hour ride, and the Ranch offered plenty of options, including
a barbecue and moonlight beach ride, which would have been so cool since the
moon was full while we were there.
The
resort property itself is beautiful. There were massive archways dividing up
portions of the Alhambra bar area and the breeze coming off the ocean was
delightful. There was a coffee bar and a cigar bar set up every evening and
this was a very popular gathering place at night for the more mature crowd.
The Meridian bar had the pool tables and was more cramped, it didn't have
the same airflow and was more popular with the younger, college-age set.
We ate at every restaurant except the El Sombrero
Mexican Restaurant. All the food was excellent! At the Munahana Japanese
Restaurant, we had sushi for the first time; delicious. The food was
prepared on a grill right in front of us, as in most stateside Japanese
restaurants, and you could chose any of 4 meat & fish selections or have
some of everything. We also had tempura and a light soup. We finished up
with Ginger Ice Cream. What a wonderful experience.
The following evening we ate at Martini's Italian
Restaurant. It too was wonderful. They had an excellent selection of
antipasti and the meal itself was delicious. At first, we thought the
portions were rather small, but after we started eating, we realized the
food was so rich, there was no way we could have eaten more. The flavors
were just terrific.
All
the Breezes personnel had to have been overworked, but nobody showed it at
all. Everyone from the front desk to the guy painting the elevator were
unfailing pleasant and smiling and always had an "hola" for every
passerby. Also, this resort was very clean. Not everyone spoke English, but
everyone made every effort to fulfill each guests' wishes.
I visited the Metamorphosis Spa twice. It was pure
luxury. The prices were very reasonable and the personnel very well-trained.
The facilities were scrupulously clean and very quiet.
Even though we don't have children, we could not
help but notice how the resort staff was with them, everyone was so patient
and understanding.
There were people of all nationalities at this
resort, and we enjoyed the mix of languages and ethnic groups. We also felt
extremely safe all the time. We visited the vendors on the beach on our fir st full day, and twice during our week-long stay.
Overall, I would have to say that our room was a
disappointment, but the resort itself was wonderful. If the room had been
nicer and the ocean a little more user-friendly, I would never had left and
you'd be getting this e-mail from Superclubs Breezes Punta Cana.
